India's First News Bot

Started by IIT, IIM and Ivy League alumni; Gurgaon-based news technology start-up NewsBytes launched its automated bot on Facebook Messenger. The beta version of their cross-platform bot is a part of Facebook's Messenger program revealed at F8 conference. It is known to be India's first news bot.



In its one year of existence, NewsBytes, by Elysium Labs Private Limited, with around 40k downloads on Play Store, has seen a spectacular growth so far. It is one of the highest-rated news apps in India. Its primary focus is to reduce information overload in your everyday news consumption

Best Webshop in Spain : Promofarma

Promofarma has won the award for Best Webshop in Spain. The online marketplace that’s filled with products from local pharmacies won the most important prize during the Ecommerce Awards, an event hosted by Club Ecommerce last week.



For the seventh consecutive year, Club Ecommerce handed out the Ecommerce Awards. Last Thursday, over 200 attendees of the Museum of Lázaro Galdiano in Madrid saw how Promofarma went home with an award for Best Webshop. In total, there were eight different awards companies could win.

Ola Launches Luxury Car service in Mumbai

Taxi app Ola has introduced its newest service category, ‘Ola Lux’ in Mumbai offering luxury cars and Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) on demand to customers. 

The cars one can hire under this service include Jaguar, Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Toyota Fortuner and Honda Accord, Ola said. 


Ola Lux is available for booking at a minimum fare of Rs. 200 and Rs. 19 per/km. A ride time charge of Rs. 2 per minute is also applicable.

The chief product officer of e-commerce marketplace Snapdeal, Anand Chandrasekaran, has quit the company to start his own entrepreneurial venture.

Chandrasekaran was brought on board in June last year to revamp the company's platform, especially mobile.
Anand has done some stellar work on the product side at Snapdeal.

Twitter drops media attachments from 140 character limit

Twitter Inc said on Tuesday that user names and media attachments such as photos and videos will no longer count toward the length of a tweet but the 140-character limit will remain.

Twitter said the change, part of its efforts to simplify its micro blogging service, will happen in the next few months.


A few simple changes to make conversations on Twitter easier! And no more removing characters for images or videos!" Chief Executive Jack Dorsey said in a 115-character tweet.

Italy ecommerce to reach €19.3 billion in 2016

Ecommerce in Italy is expected to generate 19.3 billion euros in 2016, which would mean the online retail industry of the Southern European country will increase by 17 percent, compared to last year. Much growth is expected from tourism, IT & electronics and clothing.



The prediction was done by the Italian ecommerce association Netcomm during the eleventh edition of the Netcomm Ecommerce Forum. As said, if the predictions come true, ecommerce in Italy will have been increasing by 17 percent compared to the situation in 2015. Even more impressive is the growth of the Italian online retail industry if you look back at the last couple of years. In 2010, the industry was worth just 8 billion euros, which means it has grown by 140 percent during the last six years.

Apple, Bharti Airtel to enhance their partnership

Apple and Bharti Airtel on Friday decided to explore ways to work even more closely, with Apple CEO Tim Cook and Bharti Group chairman Sunil Mittal meeting for more than an hour at the latter’s corporate headquarters in Vasant Kunj. Discussions related to tapping synergies between the two at a time when 4G services are being rolled out in the country.



It was a great meeting. Apple and Airtel go a long way back since Apple was introduced to India through Airtel and continues to be a preferred partner. Given Airtel’s lead in the 4G space, the relationship will become stronger,” a source aware of the talks between the two said.

Tata Group to Launch online marketplace : CLiQ

The Tata Group is set to board the ecommerce bus with the launch of its online marketplace by the end of this month. Called 'Tata CLiQ', the marketplace will integrate the online experience with omnichannel support at brick-and-mortar stores. 


The business to be launched by new arm Tata Unistore, will initially focus on apparel, electronics and footwear.

India's first solar-powered train set for trial

In a bid to harness solar energy, the Indian Railways is all set to conduct trial of its first solar panel-powered train in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city.

A railway official said though the train would be pulled by conventional diesel-run engines, the solar energy will be used for internal electricity gadgets.



Solar panels have been installed on top of the coaches in the train and the energy, which we will get from the sun, will be used for the functioning of lights and fans inside the coaches in the train.

Restaurants, e-commerce companies and logistics companies have been facing trouble for a long time to make quick and efficient deliveries possible. This is because, so far, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, did not allow two-wheelers to be fitted with delivery boxes.



Even though the fitment of delivery boxes on two-wheelers was not allowed so far, many restaurants and e-commerce logistics companies have already been following the practice, leading to the delivery boys often being pulled up by the traffic police for violating the law.

AI Group to add 100 planes to fleet in 4 years

Switching into expansion mode, the Air India Group has decided to add 100 planes to its current fleet of 132 in the next four years. All airlines within the group — parent AI, AI Express and Alliance Air — will get more aircraft under the plan. This time the airline will opt for leasing, unlike the 111-aircraft order of UPA-I when planes were bought.



By March 31, 2020, AI group will have 232 planes. While nine aircraft (six Boeing 787s and three B-777) are from the previous order (of 111 planes), the rest will be new orders for leasing planes. We are going to grow aggressively and fight for leadership across segments

Domestic gas users in major cities need income proof for subsidy claim

Consumers in Tier-I and II cities will have to submit affidavits to their LPG distributors stating that their annual income is below Rs.10 lakh to continue to receive cooking gas subsidy, according to Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

In the Tier-I and Tier-II cities, when somebody comes to refill gas, they are asked to sign an affidavit regarding their income,” the Minister said.



It is a matter of trust. We have to trust our people, and they are trustworthy. I didn’t believe that 1 crore people would give up their subsidy, but they did.

Chinese Investors to Fund 10 Indian Tech Startups

As many as 15 Chinese investors representing nine firms have shortlisted 10 Indian startups, operating in mobile technologies, e-commerce and medical technology, for up to $5 million (roughly Rs. 33.2 crores) seed and Series A funding, it was announced on Tuesday.





However, the shortlisted Indian startups selected at the 'Date with Chinese Investors' were not disclosed to avoid poaching from rival investors, while another five to seven startups are being reviewed for funding.

Car sales in top gear

Sales of passenger vehicles — cars, vans and utility vehicles — surged over 12 per cent in April, thanks to the popularity of newly-launched models and a low base effect. The industry is estimated to have sold 237,149 units in April this year (based on data available for the top 10 players).



Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor and M&M reported double-digit growth in domestic sales to dealers. Tata Motors reported a growth of eight per cent after months of decline, thanks to the newly-launched Tiago. On the other hand, Honda and Toyota continue to see double-digit decline in sales.
