Mahindra to build India's first automobile shredding plant

A unit of autos-to-technology group Mahindra intends to set up a network of automobile shredding plants, an executive told Reuters on Thursday after announcing plans to build India's first such facility with a state firm.



India is considering introducing a policy to scrap old vehicles, like the cash-for-clunkers programme the United States tried during the global economic recession to boost auto sales.

India also plans to enforce stricter vehicular emission rules, potentially opening up an opportunity for companies like Mahindra, India's top utility vehicle maker by sales with a market capitalisation of $17 billion, to recycle older cars and trucks.

PayPal Co-Founder Max Levchin Makes His First Indian Investment

Fintech startup ClearTax which facilitates users to file taxes and returns online has raised $1.3 Mn (INR 8.6 Cr) in seed funding from a group of prominent Silicon Valley investors including PayPal co-founder Max Levchin and Scott Banister, an early investor in Facebook and Uber. 



The Bangalore-based company will use the proceeds for new product launches, expanding the size of its team, and to further build its mobile strategy.

Microsoft to stop production of Xbox 360

Vodafone invites banks to pitch for India

Vodafone Group has set the ball rolling for its long-awaited India IPO by inviting banks, including Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, to submit pitches to manage it, people with direct knowledge of the deal said.



The listing of Vodafone 's Indian unit is expected to raise between $2 billion and $2.5 billion, the people said, making it the biggest IPO since state-owned Coal India Ltd's $3.5 billion listing in 2010. Vodafone had raised the prospect of a listing in India as early as 2011.

Facebook unveils plans to connect developing nations

After India said 'no' to Free Basics and opted for net neutrality recently, the social networking giant Facebook has unveiled two new initiatives to improve internet services for the rural population in the developing countries, including India.



Announced at its two-day annual F8 conference in San Francisco, US, this week, the Antenna Radio Integration for Efficiency in Spectrum (ARIES) system will boost speed, efficiency and quality of internet connectivity in remote areas in the developing countries, a Forbes report said.

ARIES-a base station with 96 antennas that can support 24 devices or streams simultaneously over the same radio spectrum -- can cover more users across large, rural areas by using multiple transmitters and receivers.

4G Devices becoming affordable in India

The report said it is now possible to buy a 4G device for as low as Rs 4,000 (or $60) with a 5-inch screen size, 1.1 Ghz quad-core processor, 8GB internal memory, 5MP camera and 2,300 mAh battery, which are good enough entry-level specifications.

Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket makes third powered landing

Blue Origin pulled off a spaceflight hat trick today as its New Shepard rocket completed its third powered landing. In a series of tweets, company founder and CEO Jeff Bezos confirmed the third flight of the reusable booster from its test site in Texas. The rocket flew to an altitude of 339,178 feet (103 km) before releasing its unmanned Crew Capsule, which returned to Earth using parachutes.


Today's flight marks the third time in a row that the same New Shepard rocket has flown, then made a powered landing. According to Bezos, the very low altitude flight was designed to test the ability of the engines to restart quickly and at high thrust. Failure to do so would have resulted in a ground impact within six seconds.
