India Beat China in US Investment

The Barack Obama administration has said that the United States has stepped up investment in India since the advent of the Narendra Modi government in the country, outpacing its investment in China. 

The high-level engagements between our two countries since May of 2014 include six at the leader-level, including the Nuclear Security Summit this week, and we could well see more before the end of the administration,"


US Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Desai Biswal said in a note that outlined US policies and priorities for 2016 in South and Central Asia. She said, "Much of the focus has been on the economic partnership, and while there continue to be challenges, we have seen a dramatic rise in US investment in India, which today outpaces US investment in China.

India approves foreign investment in e-commerce sector

India on Tuesday approved 100 percent foreign investment in marketplace e-commerce companies, formalizing rules for the first time for the multi-billion dollar sector.



After years of protectionist policies, India started opening up its retail sector in 2011 but so far had not laid down explicit rules governing foreign investment in the fast-growing e-commerce segment.

Google offers free calls via Hangouts

Following the deadly terrorist attacks which left 34 dead and over 250 injured in Brussels, search giant Google is offering free calls to Belgium via Google Hangouts. The free calls are also available for Turkey which witnessed simlar attacks last week.



The company announced the same on its social media platform Google +. Expressing its sympathy with the people killed and injured in the attcaks, the company said in a statement that the free calls are available via Hangouts, Hangouts Dialer or Google Voice to Belgium and Turkey.

Online shopping to rise by 78% in 2016

Average online purchases are expected to increase by 78 per cent this year on the back of attractive deals and aggressive marketing of merchandise, says a report.



Unfazed by slowdown, average online purchases are expected to increase by 78 per cent in 2016 from 66 per cent in 2015 due to attractive deals and aggressive marketing of ever-expanding range of merchandise from clothes to jewellery, from electronics to books," said the Assocham-PwC report.

Twitter to keep 140 character limit

Appearing on a TV show, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said that the 140-character limit is "a beautiful constraint" and that Twitter "will never lose that feeling.



It's (140-characters) staying. It's a good constraint for us, and it allows for of-the-moment brevity... We're changing a lot. We're always going to make Twitter better," he was quoted as saying in a Tech Crunch report on Saturday.

India,Bangladesh Have signed $2billon Credit Agreement

Bangladesh and India have signed a new $2 billion credit agreement to implement socio-economic development projects in Bangladesh and strengthen bilateral relations.

This is the biggest line of credit India has extended to any country so far. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised the assistance during his Bangladesh visit last year.



The interest rate has been fixed at 1 per cent annually with a 20-year repayment term, including a five-year moratorium.

Ashok Leyland to expand UAE Manufacturing plant

Ashok Leyland plans to significantly expand its manufacturing capacity at its Ras Al Khaimah plant and aims to pump in fresh investment of $100 million for further capacity expansion at the facility in order to triple the capacity to 6000 units per year, the company said.



This plant is key for the supply of buses to address the needs of GCC countries, and with Ashok Leyland's ambitious plans for Africa, we foresee further expansion of the facility," managing director Ashok Leyland Vinod Dasari said.

Bhel gets order for power plant From TANGEDCO
